Zonbu, the company that pioneered affordable, green and hassle-free computing with their Zonbu Mini, today announced that it is introducing a new notebook computer and service. The new Zonbu Notebook will be manufactured by Everex, who’ve just put out the gPC I posted about a couple of weeks ago.
Although the final version of the Zonbu Notebook won’t be available until early 2008, if you’re eager to try it, can order a Zonbu Notebook with a beta version of the software starting today on www.zonbu.com. Once the software is finalized, their system will be automatically updated.

Super green, the notebook will draw a maximum of only 15 watts thanks to the power efficiency of the VIA C7-M processor, and has been EPEAT Silver certified. The notebook is also RoHS compliant, uses recycled plastics and cartons, and has and end-of-life disposal program.
Starting at US$279 upfront and a $14.95 monthly subscription fee, the Zonbu Notebook and service will include 20 best-of-breed software applications, free and automatic software upgrades, generous online storage, file remote access and sharing, automatic data back-up, unlimited online tech support, and free hardware replacement in case of damage. It’s also available for US$479 without the
subscription.
“People fell in love with the Zonbu Mini because it freed them from all of the hassles associated with computer maintenance,” said Zonbu CEO Gregoire Gentil. “Now they can have the same benefits on-the-go with the new Zonbu Notebook.” According to Gentil, people shouldn’t have to be their own IT administrators. “We don’t want people to spend a single minute worrying about configuration, setup, crashing hard drives, viruses, hackers, or data loss. That’s our job,” said Zonbu CEO Gregoire Gentil.
