A few weeks back I wrote an article on how to measure how much power your computer (or any other appliance for that matter) is drawing. Quite a few people had never heard of the method, and found it interesting given the current push for energy efficiency in computing products. So, here's a quick video explaining exactly how to do it. Try it out - it really works!

The Kill-A-Watt was very helpful. I discovered that the forty year old electric meter hooked up to my house reports 4 times the electric usage for my refrigerator than does the Kill-A-Watt meter. Unfortunately, So Cal Edison wont replace the meter. I was also surprised at how little electricity modern televisons and consumer electronics like DVD players use. A single 100 watt bulb uses as much electricity as the TV, DVD and VCR combined.

Thanks for your comment. Yeah, it's certainly a handy device. I was also surprised at how little power some of my devices and appliances use. Interesting info about your fridge. I've done the same experiment with mine and they are both (the Kill-A-Watt measurement and the manual measurement) within a couple of watts of each other. Something's not quite right there.
