Over the past weekend, VIA management and staff, along with high-ranking officials from the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Beijing Municipal Government, the Huairou District Government and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Industry Development, gathered in the Huairou countryside, northeast Beijing, for a day of tree planting.
Designed as an activity to not only further VIA’s commitment to green computing, but also as a way to show support for the environmental goals of the Beijing Olympics, 2,008 trees were brought in and planted by an enthusiastic group of officials, VIA employees and partners.
The tree planting in Huairou, a largely mountainous area lying about 50 kilometers from Beijing city center (about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive), comes on the back of VIA's recent investment in a 30.4MW wind farm in Turkey: Anemon Enerji (pics of which can be seen in our gallery section). Anemon Enerji consists of a grid connecting 38 wind turbines and has anticipated electricity output of 108,000 MWh per year, which is expected to reduce the equivalent of 74,700 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.

The Huairou tree planting activity was attended by dozens of media from both Beijing and the greater China area, and received wide coverage in both local newspapers and on television.
